Get the Stump Out of the Way
A stump may seem harmless until you are mowing around it every week, trying to landscape the area, building a trail, clearing brush, or preparing the property for another project.
D.A.D.S. Disposal provides stump grinding as part of outdoor property cleanup and land-improvement projects throughout West Michigan.
Whether the stump is left from a recent tree removal or has been sitting on the property for years, we can help determine whether grinding is the right way to reclaim the area.
Common Reasons to Grind a Stump
Make Mowing Easier
Remove obstacles that force you to mow around, trim around, or repeatedly work around the same stump.
Improve Property Access
Clear stumps from trails, drive approaches, open areas, and routes used by equipment or vehicles.
Prepare for Landscaping
Make room for reseeding, planting, landscape cleanup, or other outdoor improvements.
Clean Up After Tree Removal
Finish the job after an approved tree is removed so the remaining stump does not continue to interfere with the surrounding area.
Reclaim Neglected Property
Remove old stumps discovered during brush clearing, trail work, property cleanup, or land restoration.

Stump Grinding vs. Full Stump Removal
Stump grinding reduces the visible portion of the stump and allows the area to become easier to mow, maintain, landscape, or use. It is different from excavating the entire root system from the ground.
The best approach depends on what you plan to do with the area afterward. If future construction, excavation, or another project requires complete root removal, additional work may be necessary beyond standard grinding.
How Stump Grinding Projects Start
1. Send Photos & Measurements
Include your city or ZIP code, clear photos of the stump, and an approximate diameter measured across the widest part.
2. Show Us the Access
Send photos showing gates, fencing, structures, terrain, and how equipment would reach the stump.
3. We Review the Scope
We consider stump size, location, access, surrounding conditions, travel, cleanup needs, and the intended use of the area afterward.
Still Have the Tree?
If the tree is still standing, D.A.D.S. may also be able to handle approved tree removal when the size, location, condition, and property access fit our service scope.

Grinding produces wood chips and disturbed material around the stump area. The final condition depends on the stump, depth, surrounding soil, and what you plan to do with the space afterward.
If the area is part of a larger cleanup, trail, landscaping, or ground-preparation project, D.A.D.S. may be able to help with the next phase as well.
